Snorkeling Hanauma Bay or Sharks Cove
Overview
Are you planning on snorkeling while you’re in Hawaii? The best and easiest places to snorkel year round is Hanauma Bay and Sharks Cove. The maze of reefs are filled with all types of animals, coral, and super cool things to look at!!!
We provide professional guides and lifeguards to escort you while diving at Hanauma Bay or Sharks Cove. Your equipment (snorkel, mask, fins), transportation, and entry are complementary. We also provide lunches and refreshments.
We recommend you bring sunscreen, towel, identification, snorkeling equipment (optional), rash guard (optional), and extra clothes
We offer both half day and full day tours. Half day tours are 4 hours in duration, and full day tours are 8 hours in duration.
There are many interesting things to see while diving. I remember one dive in particular; we were snorkeling around when all of a sudden an eel swims by us in about 4 feet of water. Chasing the eel are two Jacks, or Omilu's in Hawaiian. I know, pretty crazy!!! The eel found refuge in one of the rocks and the Jacks circled the entire time. See for yourself, check out the video!!!
What else might you potentially see? Uhu, Ape, Roy Sea Bass, Flounders, Blue Strip Snappers, Toau, Turtles, Octopus, Squid, Aholehole, and others. Sometimes, depending on the time of year, you will see massive schools of Aholehole or Manini (usually in summer or winter). It is pretty cool to swim through a school of fish and on occasion, our instructors will lead you to see sleeping white tip sharks. You'll have to look in a cave so practice holding your breath before you take the tour!
If you are headed to Hanauma Bay on your own, then you will want to go early if you are driving (before 9 a.m.). If you arrive after 9 a.m. you run the risk of the parking lot being full. If the parking lot is full, they will not allow your vehicle in. Also, remember that the park is closed on Tuesdays. For non-Hawaii residents the cost is $7.50 per person. If you do not have snorkeling equipment, then equipment can be rented at the park for about $20. You can find more information on the City and County's web page. Click here. Hanauma Bay is located at 7455 Kalaniana'ole Hwy Honolulu, HI 96795.
Sharks Cove is located on the North Shore and can be very dangerous. Please be aware of the ocean conditions. There is no lifeguard on duty. If you are in doubt, then don't go out. |

Hanauma Bay
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8am. While driving to Hanauma Bay we will teach you about the history and the geology of Oahu and the bay. Once we reach Hanauma Bay, we will try on our snorkel gear then head into the bay. We are required to watch a 9 minute video prior to entering the bay. All snorkel tours are private. We only allow 5 individuals per instructor.
Take a look at the arial shots and picture to the left of Hanauma Bay. You'll see a white sand beach, an inner reef where the waves are breaking, and the outer reef. We will stay on the inside of the reef unless the weather conditions are in our favor (light current and small waves).
For the first hour and a half your guide will be snorkeling with the group. Once we return to shore you will have the opportunity to continue to snorkel or go on a beach walk with the instructor.
The beach walk is a great oportunity to talk about the fish you saw while snorkeling. Your instructor will also teach you about fish habbits and how to spot fish from land.
If time permits will will jump back into the water and explore a different portion of the reef. Ask your instructor to show you the white tip sharks resting in the caves.
Upon completion of our tour we will head to the car for a quick bite to eat before we head back.
Full day tours will be scheduled between the customer and Keawe Adventures prior to the tour.
We will provide you with a delicious bento box, which consist of meat and rice. Give us a call if you have any special food arrangements at 808-780-1253 .

Sharks Cove

Shark’s Cove, as seen on the right, is a wonderful place to snorkel. This is a marine preserve, which is home to thousands of fish. The cove is located on the North Shore of Oahu next to the world famous Waimea Bay (location of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Competition). Large waves make the cove inaccessible during the winter months.
Transportation is complimentary, along with snorkel equipment and lunch. We also provide you with an experienced guide that will snorkel with you and show you the fish, caves, and marine life that you would normally swim past. Our instructors are lifeguard and CPR certified.
We offer half and full day packages. Our Half day packages will start at 8 am. The drive will take approximately 45 min to an hour from hotels in Waikiki. Once we get there we will conduct a beach assessment of the area. We will point out danger areas as well as entry and exit points. We will spend roughly 2 hours snorkeling and exploring. At 11 am we will break for lunch. After lunch we will make our way back to your hotel (for individuals on Half day tours). For individuals on full day tours we will rest for about 45 minutes to an hour and then continue snorkeling. If you had enough of snorkeling, we have options to visit a few sites on the North Shore (Haleiwa Town, Pipeline, Sunset). Half day tours will take about 5 hours in duration and full day tours about 8 hours in duration.
Towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, rash guard or wetsuit.
